The lighthouse is an immersive real-time audio-visual light installation. It is inspired by beacons from lighthouses.
In the Netherlands, the usefulness of lighthouses dwindles. But the motivation to light them up and maintain them persists. Local residents have become attached to it. I’m interested in why.
Even though I never grew up around one, I can feel this attachment. It is nice to have a beacon in the dark. And perhaps I’m not alone. During the last few months, I started to question why I am interested in experiencing light through installations. I am questioning who I am as a designer. I am looking for a beacon.
The answer is given in a recreation of the functional light of a lighthouse, for those who are also feeling lost.
